Meet Louis Ellery

Louis is a Human Biomechanics Specialist and the Owner of FP Brisbane. Louis has a kind and professional demeanour and is a highly skilled practitioner. He has constantly showcased his ability to transform peoples movement and lifestyle.

chronic pain specialist brisbane

Louis Says…

“I found FP in 2015 when my body was at breaking point. A long history of traditional training and endless hours playing cricket and tennis completely ruined the way I moved.

At the time i was practicing as a Physiotherapist but didn’t really enjoy the job/career as a whole. I found clients to be uninterested in the long term when discussing injuries and dysfunctions.

I found the profession too based in literature and not enough in real world application. I decided to pack up my bags and go and play cricket in England for 6 months. This was when I broke…

  • Achilles tendinopathy,

  • rotator cuff tears,

  • labral tears,

  • stress reactions in my pubic bone and lumbar spine,

  • adductor tendinitis,

  • side strains,

  • hamstring tears,

  • chronic neck stiffness

  • & wrist injuries.

All these issues hit me within a 12 month period. Despite all the tools I had at my disposal as a Physiotherapist (alongside the many other systems I had tried and researched), I could not get on top of my pain.

I would recover from an acute injury with traditional rehab and strength & conditioning work. Then a new kind of pain would appear when I would return to any kind of high intensity sport. I started believing that i would never be able to enjoy throwing a ball around or sprinting at the beach again. My confidence in my ability to help others diminished.

I remember taking a physio contract in remote Queensland where I had a lot of time to spare. I decided to download the 10 week course from Functional Patterns and complete it while I had all that free time.

The effect was almost immediate in the scheme of how long I had been in pain for. Within weeks I had gotten rid of a significant amount of pain. I was beginning to understand the concept of integration > isolation.

The pain relief I got from a few simple myofascial releases and corrective exercises was addictive. I knew then that I needed to delve further down the rabbit hole.

I signed up for a course in New Zealand where I discovered how little I knew about the body. Fast forward 4 years and I no longer feel any of the old aches and pains I did back then, and I’m moving better than ever.

There’s an infinite amount of things I still have to work on but I can be confident knowing I can:

  • go down to the cricket nets to bowl 50 balls,

  • head to the park to kick a footy all afternoon,

  • or sprint in the early morning on the Gold Coast beaches without waking up the next morning in agony.

My aim is to replicate this feeling with all of my clients. It does not matter if you’re a 50-something mother of three that’s trying to get back into exercise, or a professional athlete wanting to improve your longevity and efficiency. I can honestly say that Functional Patterns is the best way forward.

By no means is FP a miracle cure. However, if you are sick of waking up in pain, going to bed with a headache or just want to move better, then putting in consistent hard work with FP will net you better results than any other system on earth. Period.

We showcase these results all over social media. Real life, life changing results.”

Louis’ Clients Say

Functional Patterns has been a game changer for me. No more SIJ pain after years of discomfort when I did anything physical.

You have to commit and put the work in a follow the advice of your instructor to get the best results. For the first time since I’ve had my 2 kids I can actually feel my lower core work. It’s been numb for years. I can’t thank Lou enough.

Jen Says…

“Functional Patterns has changed my life in many ways.

Before I stumbled across FP's social media page in 2018, I suffered from consistent lower back pain. My posture felt terrible and I could not run far without getting sore hips. I sometimes felt sharp pains around my shoulder blades.

Being a PT, I thought I knew quite a lot about the body. I was doing traditional training several days of the week. But I still couldn’t figure out why I was still in so much pain.

When I completed the FP 10 week online course at the start of 2019 I realised my workouts had been contributing towards my injuries. I couldn’t believe how quickly my pain started to improve once I based my exercise around the fundamental principles of: walking, running and throwing.

As a trainer who has been in the industry for 18 years, I have seen a lot of short-lived exercise trends come and go. None of them have made me feel as good as The FP training system. The before and after results showcased globally speak for themselves and put this type of training in a league of its own.

After 4 years of my FP, my body feels as though it moves closer to how it is supposed to. It is great to be able to challenge myself with a workout and not feel worried about an injury at the end of it.

I now understand what good posture is. Even better - I get to spend my working days sharing my knowledge with others to helping improve my clients movement and quality of life.

Whether you’re in pain, out of shape or just want to enjoy moving your body - I look forward to being able to help you optimise your health and functionality.

“Live intentionally, not habitually”

Meet Max Emett

Max is a qualified Human Biomechanics Specialist. Max has a strong background in Muay Thai and MMA and an obsession for movement. He is able to get clients of every description moving and functioning better than they ever thought possible.

chronic pain specialist brisbane

Max Says…

“My background before finding Functional Patterns was in MMA where I had 2 fights and Muay Thai with 12 fights. An intense 3-year-stint of fighting had burned me out and I was looking for a way to get in good shape. I didn't want to slow myself by doing traditional bodybuilding and CrossFit-type movements. I knew that would hinder my speed and technique in martial arts.

In 2016 I first saw Naudi Aguilar online while doing all sorts of various movements on YouTube, I was intrigued but I didn’t know what it all for. I then watched a podcast with him where he explained his goal with Functional Patterns. He explained the importance of being able to stand, walk, run and throw proficiently. He explained why this is mandatory to get people out of pain and become more athletic.

I then bought the 'Power of Posture' book and all the online material he had at the time. Later that same year I attended a human foundations course. Fast forward 6 years and I am now a Functional Patterns certified Human Biomechanics Specialist.

My goal with all my clients is to get great results and offer them the best service I can. I also aim to keep working on my own mind and body to be more regenerative and become more of a functional Beast! I look forward to working with you on your journey to better health and life changing results.”

Max’s Clients Say:

Been training with Max for about 3 months now. All the aches and niggles of 10+ years as a tradie have pretty much disappeared, I feel amazing. Max pushes hard for results and is very knowledgeable as are the rest of the awesome team at Brisbane FP
— Tom, Verified 5 Star Google Review
I have been working with Max at Functional Patterns Brisbane twice a week for approx 6 month. Before Functional patterns I had back and shoulder pain and would regularly see chiropractors to help manage the pain.

In my time training with Max I haven’t been back to the Chiropractor once. Max is exceptionally patient, great at explaining the benefits of each movement and how with these actions am undoing years of substandard movements.
— Emma Bretherton, Verified 5 Star Google Review
Highly recommend, welcoming & inclusive environment, have been training with Max for about 2 years, consistently exceeding expectations. Thanks FP_Brisbane team!

Pietro Cucinotta, Human Biomechanics Specialist

Pietro Says:

“Movement has always been a big part of my life. As a kid I was always very active and started playing sports at a young age.

After trying many different disciplines I settled down with rugby and became a professional player. I represented my country in International competitions. At the young age of 14 I started suffering from back pain caused by two discs protrusion and sciatica.

That's when my journey of learning about health and rehab began. Over the years I have been trying physios, chiros, osteopaths, traditional postural training, rehab specialists, yoga, and a chemonucleolysis operation.

None of those approaches seemed to help me solve my problem. Two protrusion became three hernias. I developed traumatic arthrosis and eventually a compensatory scoliosis.

My quest for a solution to my problems was relentless. bBy the time I stumbled upon Functional Patterns I thought I knew everything there was to know about the human body.

Luckily enough this wasn't the case. Their approach was entirely different from anything else I had seen. Suddenly, the reason I hadn't been able to fix my chronic pain yet became clear.

I threw myself into FP headfirst and downloaded all of their online material. It wasn't until I started seeing a practitioner that things changed for me. With FP I made progress that I had never been able to do before and my quality of life increased dramatically.

Thinking back to how I was prior to FP It almost seems like a miracle. I now know what is possible when you actually understand how to address the technicalities involved with human movement. My goal is to use my expertise to help people live and function to their full potential.”

Aman Says

“Fresh out of university in 2016, armed with a Bachelor's degree in BSc Sports and Injury Management, I embarked on a journey to explore the depths of fitness and rehabilitation.

Little did I know that my path would lead me to a groundbreaking discovery: Functional Patterns. It all began with a serendipitous scroll through Facebook, where a single post caught my eye—a striking before-and-after display of improved posture.

Functional Patterns was the pioneer in showcasing such transformative results, and in that moment, I couldn't help but wonder: if this isn't the essence of fitness and rehabilitation, then what is? Eager to delve deeper, I swiftly downloaded their original 10-week online course. To my amazement, I found more practical application within those ten weeks than I had throughout my entire university degree. It was a revelation—a paradigm shift in how I perceived movement and its impact on the human body.

Fuelled by this newfound passion, I hungered for more knowledge and skills. This drive led me across the Atlantic to the United States, where I immersed myself in Functional Patterns' Human Biomechanics specialist courses. Across three intensive sessions, I not only absorbed groundbreaking concepts and techniques but also had the privilege of connecting with fellow enthusiasts from diverse corners of the globe. The camaraderie and shared pursuit of excellence were truly inspiring. Eight years into my FP journey, I can truly say that I am moving and feeling better than I ever have before, and the exciting thing is that this can only keep improving. In addition to my dedication to Functional Patterns, I've found immense joy in practicing martial arts such as boxing, Thai boxing, wrestling, and BJJ.

Despite not being the most naturally gifted athlete, I've pursued these disciplines on and off for many years. However, I often faced setbacks due to injuries and recurring pain, especially in my shoulders. Through Functional Patterns and a focused effort on improving my biomechanics in the "BIG 4," I've realised how much it enhances my performance in other movements, such as punching, kicking, or executing a takedown.

Today, armed with a wealth of knowledge and experience, I am dedicated to sharing the transformative impact of Functional Patterns with others. As someone who has experienced firsthand the benefits of this approach, I am committed to helping individuals unlock their full potential and achieve optimal health and wellness through movement.”

Here is how Aman’s Clients Feel

I immediately found Aman to be friendly, welcoming and professional.

He explained the different concepts in a way I could understand and I felt at ease. If I couldn’t grasp how to do an exercise he was happy to re explain and show me what he meant.

Also was quick to move on to another exercise if he realised it wasn’t working the targeted area and kept repeating and explaining the moves until we had achieved the goal that was set.

Thanks Aman, I enjoyed and definitely found a benefit from the session cheers Judy

MEET Keriann Zipperer

Keriann is a Human Biomechanics Consultant at Functional Patterns Brisbane with a Human Foundations certification and a strong history in successfully improving biomechanics. She has a Bachelor in Health Science (Clinical Nutrition). This gives her a deep understanding of human physiology and how to bring a body back into homeostasis. Keriann is obsessed with learning the intricacies and interlinking of the human body to solve complex, chronic health cases.

chronic pain specialist brisbane

Keriann Says…

“I come from a background of conventional gym. I practiced heavy back-squatting 5x a week with disordered eating and issues with stress management and anxiety.

Coming across FP did not initially feel like blessing. I realised that the way I had been training, moving, eating, walking and living in general was not functional at all. This was a very hard pill to swallow. At the time, it felt terrifying looking up at the mountain of work I had to climb.

My tissue was hyper-mobile and dehydrated from stretching and yoga. My hard-earned muscles were A-symmetrical and dysfunction. I was uncoordinated, stressed, my adrenal glands had bottomed out entirely and my hormones were a complete mess.

I was primarily a Nutritionist but I could not solve my stressful relationship with food. Nor could I fix my ever-growing pile of health concerns, mostly related to my digestion, nervous system and hormones.

Fast forward 5 years and I now see what an absolute blessing Functional Patterns Truly was and is.

For the first time in my life, I can look at health holistically. I feel confident that I have identified the root causes of my issues in order to fix them.

Without biomechanics in the picture, I was always so confused at how the body, mind and stomach all tied together despite years of learning science at University.

While I have a very long way to go:

  • I am more symmetrical,

  • I am no longer hyper-mobile,

  • my muscles look and feel more functional,

  • my stomach health is amazing (no more bloating/cramping, no more hyper-sensitivity/allergies),

  • no more disordered feelings & behaviours surrounding food,

  • my movement feels far more connected and my persistent anxiety has gone out the window and has been replaced with a sense of calm I only ever dreamed about.

If you’re on the fence about Functional Patterns, don’t be. I had a very rigid view before stumbling upon it and i was SURE i was right and it was wrong. But, I couldn’t ignore the hard facts and results that FP lays out on the daily.

Fix your biomechanics, fix everything. Stop pulling health to pieces and focusing on every little bit, only to get confused, overwhelmed and frustrated and swept up in the system of ‘poor health economy’ where big corporations make a LOT of money. Start with the top and the results with trickle down into every part of your life. The top is Functional Patterns”

Keriann’s Clients Say:

I cannot recommend Keriann from FP Brisbane highly enough. We have been training for a few months now and she has changed my life. This stuff should be taught in schools.

I no longer have pain in my left should from other HIIT programs. I won’t be seeing anyone else but FP for heath, fitness or recovery ever again. Best decision I’ve ever made. Just try it, you don’t want to miss this experience.
— Kathy, Verified 5 Star Google Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The team at functional patterns brisbane have had a profound impact on my physical and mental well-being.

Meet Emma Kopcikas

Emma graces Functional Patterns Brisbane with a wealth of knowledge and drive. With a Doctorate in Osteopathy, Emma handles chronic, complex conditions with a keen eye. She takes a holistic attitude using Functional Patterns training methods.

Emma has a kind nature and sees great results with her clientele. Emma also has a strong athletic background and has showcased incredible improvements on her own body.

Emma has experience with chronic conditions such as complex regional pain syndrome. She has also had success with FND. If you are looking for a chronic pain, posture or nerve pain specialist in Brisbane, Emma is your go-to.

Emma Says:

“I discovered FP when I was looking for solutions to ongoing injuries resulting from a lifelong passion for basketball. I started playing basketball at the age of 4 and began competing at state and semi-professional levels by the time I was 15.

From the age of 14 I was battling lower back issues and recurring overuse injuries in my knees and shoulder. Yet, like so many people in sport, I continued to power through into my 20s. I kept believing my pain and continuing injuries were just part of being an athlete.

I became a qualified Osteopath by 23. Despite 5yrs of study and treatments from my peers, I still hadn’t managed to correct my own issues. I was stuck in an injury cycle of playing, suffering injury flare-ups and skipping a season to recover. Then I would repeat the process all over again.

By the age of 25 I was forced to give up high-level basketball. My ongoing knee problems and a labral tear in my shoulder were too dificult to manage. I tried traditional rehab and strength training which allowed me to “move better.” However, I still could not get back on the court without excessive pain.

By 2019, at age 28, I’d reluctantly taken over a year off basketball. I was in the worst physical shape of my life. I was lacking fitness and battling to lose the weight I’d gained over the last few injury riddled years.

I knew I needed a completely different approach. That’s when I discovered Naudi’s Youtube content. I excitedly watching video after video and began trying to integrate some of the basic principles. I started training with FP Brisbane and haven’t looked back.

Through Functional Patterns I am moving better than I ever have. Because of this I have even managed to treat my injuries without the need for surgery.

The more I trained at Functional Patterns and improved, the more frustrated I became with my job as an Osteopath.

My patients experienced significant benefits with my treatments. But there seemed to be a limit to how much improvement I could provide simply with Osteopathy. I spent more time at FP and witnessed the significant changes in clients.

I came to the realisation that not directly addressing biomechanics was preventing long term change in my own clients.

So, when there was an opportunity to attend a Human Foundations course, I jumped at it. My Osteopathic background has definitely taught me to recognise and treat dysfunctions. Through functional patterns, I feel like I actually have the tools to help people correct their dysfunctional patterns. I am now able to provide clients with lifelong change.

So whatever level of fitness you currently have, whether you’re struggling with pain or just want to move better, even if you just want to spend less of your week training, then functional patterns is where you should be.

We’ve all heard the saying 'work smarter not harder'. That’s what this system is. It is the smartest way to train to have a positive impact on your body.

It allows you to help regenerate instead of degenerate. FP allows you to effectively move your body for the long haul.”

Trent Hill, Human Biomechanics Trainer

Trent Says:

“Before starting Functional Patterns, I had a background in traditional exercise techniques and Wing Chun Kung Fu.

From a young age I valued the ability to be able to move athletically. I also wanted to have confidence in my appearance.

I was originally working as a child care educator and studying teaching. But, I could not overcome my desire to focus more so on my body. I would train at the gym everyday doing bodybuilding techniques. I would also train Kung Fu at least twice a week on top of this.

I decided to make the move into personal training as a profession. Building on my physique became my sole means of addressing all of my problems:

  • stress,

  • a lack of confidence

  • and embarrassment caused by my pectus excavatum in particular.

It worked for a little while.

Eventually I could tell the training I was doing was not addressing any of my asymmetries or dysfunctions. My Pectus excavatum and asymmetrical shoulders were not improving. This is where I started looking for ways to address these issues. The method that stood out to me like a sore thumb was called Functional Patterns.

I not only saw result photos of clients with improvements in their Pectus. Functional Patterns had result photos for a whole range of different people, no matter their dysfunctions. As a personal trainer I did not see this level of consistent results anywhere else.

I remember a distinct moment that made me quit bodybuilding and Personal Training.

I had a client who had scoliosis and I had to tell her that I couldn’t help her fix it. This didn’t sit right with me. It made me realise how little I knew and how narrow my skillset was as a Personal Trainer.

From here I decided to start training with a practitioner once a week to fix my dysfunctions and treat my pain. I wanted to understand more about how Functional Patterns leads people towards living functionally rather than habitually.

I saw how much our planet needs this movement method by using it to fix my own dysfunctions first. Functional patterns teaches you to see through all the B.S (bad science) and to address the actual problems.

My goal as a Functional Patterns Trainer is to guide help people to understanding and correct their dysfunctions. I not longer want to see client just “getting a workout in.“

“My journey as a human biomechanics specialist began through the cycle of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training, injuries, and rehab. Traditional methods were frustratingly shallow and I was seeking a deeper understanding of human movement.

Discovering Functional Patterns (FP) was a turning point. Their impressive results and the holistic approach they offered captivated my attention. I pursued intensive training in human biomechanics in the United States, under the guidance of renowned experts.

The Human Foundation and Human Biomechanics Specialist Courses proved to be a turning point. Armed with newfound insights, I began unraveling the root causes of my persistent pains and frustrations. Finally, I understood why previous attempts to seek help had fallen short. I also understood why the adults and children I was training at the time were struggling to get meaningful results.

I realised that extensive change was necessary in both myself and my clients. I set my sights on Brisbane, Australia, where one of the largest Functional Patterns Facilities in the world was. This experience broadened my understanding of posture correction, chronic pain management, and proactive health strategies.

Witnessing the power of proper human biomechanics in action fuels my passion. Through highly individualised, gait-based programs, I empower my clients to reclaim their bodies and lead healthier lives.

Whether you face chronic pain, injury recovery, or want performance optimisation, I am committed to supporting you. I look forward to giving you the tools you require to better your relationships with gravity and your own bodies.

My expertise extends to a diverse range of cases. From chronic conditions to severe injuries, to those who want to proactively support their health through various life-stages. A genuine desire to make a positive impact on peoples lives drives me. I constantly seeking innovative approaches in the field of human biomechanics and always learning.

The incredible transformations I have witnessed and the lives Functional Patterns has touched is humbling to see. To guide my clients towards a more functional, pain-free future is a privilege I don't take lightly.”
